DON’T CRANK THAT AC! STAY COOL IN OTHER WAYS

Del-Air

As a Florida homeowner, you know how crucial a high-performing
air conditioner is to your family’s comfort. However, you also know that running
your unit year-round can cause your energy bills to skyrocket. Here are
some of Del-Air’s top tips for maximizing AC performance while keeping
electricity costs down:

Run a Fan. Fans may not actually cool a room down, however, standing and
ceiling fans create pleasant breezes that can make the air feel cooler
to your skin. By using a fan in conjunction with your air conditioner,
you can avoid running the air conditioner as hard, cutting overall
energy costs. Just make sure you turn off the fan when you leave the house,
as it won’t cool down the room in your absence!

Close the Blinds. Want an energy-free way of cooling your home? Consider
closing the blinds to block out the sun’s light and heat. Unlike
shades or curtains, window blinds let you control the amount of sunlight
entering a room at a given time. Without a constant stream of heat entering
the home, your AC won’t have to work as hard. For added effectiveness,
consider purchasing a set of highly reflective blinds, which disperse
the light without creating glare.

Plant a Tree. Planting a tree isn’t just good for the environment;
it can also help you save money on your monthly electric bills! By placing
leaf-shedding trees on the east and west sides of your home, you can block
the sun in the summer months while allowing it to shine freely during
the winter. This is a natural–and beautiful–way of cutting
down on energy costs. You may also want to consider installing awnings
over windows that receive greater-than-average sunlight
